When submitting documents to
us, please read the following. It could save you time and money.
FONTS:
ALL FONT FILES must be included with your job
to ensure it prints properly. If your fonts are missing from
your job, it can cause unexpected results in the printing and/or
delays in the completion of your work. If you have questions
about how to send fonts, please call us for assistance. 949-642-2394
IMAGES (photos, logos, graphics):
All images imported into your document from other
applications must be included with your job to ensure it prints
properly. Many applications link imported images back to the
originals and will print only low resolution versions if they
are not available. For your photos, use tiff format at at least
a 300 resolution. JPEGs and GIFs from the web are very low resolution
and do not print well. If you see big pixels in you image, then
they will also not print well. Including an imported image also
allows us to adjust the image if necessary to make it print properly.
A SAMPLE PRINT:
A sample print of your file must be included with
your job. This can be a black and white print from a laser, ink
jet or other printer. If your job is to print offset in more
than one color, please print separations also. This allows us
to compare what we output to what you expect to see.
If we do not receive a sample print with your job, we will send
a sample of our output for you to approve before producing the
job. In the event you are submitting your files via this web
site, please fax in the sample if possible or send us a PDF File.
HOW TO GET YOUR FILES TO US
REMOVABLE MEDIA:
We support the following media in both Macintosh and Windows
platforms.
3.5" Floppy CD ROM
ZIP (100MB) JAZ (1GB and 2GB)
We can receive files though the Internet on our DSL line at:
info@thomasprinters.com
E-MAIL and INTERNET
When sending files electronically, it is faster
and more reliable to compress your files with a compression utility
such as StuffIt or PKZIP. These utilities are shareware and can
be obtained from various sites on the internet or via email from
us. Send your file as an attachment.
HELPFUL TIPS
Collecting For Output
Both QuarkXpress and Pagemaker have a collect for output feature
built in. This feature copies your document and all linked graphics
into a new folder, eliminating some of the manual work involved
in collecting your files. At this time however, neither application
will collect the fonts used in your document. There are some
third party utilities available that will collect all of your
document parts. We use and recommend Markzware's Flightcheck
utility, which will collect your document, graphics, fonts and
more, automatically, as well as check your document for other
mistakes.
GRAPHIC FILE FORMAT
When choosing a file format for imported graphics, choose one
that is printer friendly. TIF and EPS files are the most common
and predictable formats. Others such as JPG and GIF may reduce
image quality or not be compatible with certain printing equipment.
Generally, images taken from the Internet are low resolution
(72dpi) and do not reproduce reliably. If you have specific questions
about file formats, please call us.
SCANNING and RESOLUTION
If your document includes scans, the scans must be made with
the final output device in mind, as each type of device may have
different requirements. General Rules of thumb are as follows:
For offset printing, scan your images to the final size you would
like them, at 300dpi and save as grayscale (black & white
photos) or CMYK (process) color TIF files. For Digital Color
printing, 200dpi is the best balance between file size and quality,
and the scans should be saved in RGB color.
POSTSCRIPT and ADOBE ACROBAT
While we support the applications listed above in their native
file format, it is often possible for us to print from other
applications that are not supported through the postscript printer
language. In short, Postscript is the language that most high-end
output devices speak. When you print from an application, the
printer driver translates the information in your document into
the language the printer speaks.
Adobe Acrobat is an emerging technology based on postscript.
Acrobat or PDF (Portable Document Format) files allow users on
almost all computer platforms to share documents which are self
contained and highly portable, and can be viewed and printed
from almost any computer.
We support both of these technologies and are encouraged as a
way to simplify file submission for printing. Please contact
us for further information.
